The 24-hour Silver Lake haven used by hip hop heavyweights Erick the Architect, blackwave. and AKTHESAVIOR.

A Silver Lake studio by newcomers, Pirate, is becoming a popular hangout amongst LA’s most exciting rising hip hop artists and international collaborators.
NYC-turned-LA-based rappers Erick the Architect and AKTHESAVIOR, newcomer MiTCH and Belgian duo blackwave. use the Sunset Boulevard studio.
Artists in LA from other disciplines are also turning to Pirate for 24-hour access to a range of spaces to rehearse, record, DJ and podcast.

Pirate’s 24-hour Silver Lake studio on Sunset is becoming a popular hangout for the most exciting hip hop acts in Los Angeles and their traveling collaborators. Heavyweights Erick the Architect and AKTHESAVIOR, newcomer MiTCH and Belgian duo blackwave. are amongst the artists working and collaborating out of the space.

One-third of Flatbush Zombies, one of New York's most revered hip hop groups, and a versatile solo artist, Erick the Architect, now resides in Los Angeles where he initiated a chain reaction by introducing fellow NYC-turned-LA-based rapper, AKTHESAVIOR, to Pirate Silver Lake. AK has gone on to link up with other artist friends, including blackwave., the well-known Belgian hip hop duo, whose latest project is aptly titled 'no sleep in LA,' at Pirate Silver Lake.

I discovered Pirate through an artist friend of mine, Erick the Architect. We had a couple rehearsals there getting ready for our upcoming shows at the time and it was a blast... Recently I pulled up to Pirate studios to do a session with some artist homies of mine, blackwave., that were in town from Belgium. They pulled up, we instantly vibed out and we got a good song out of that session.

Pirate's mission is to provide a creative space for artists at every stage of their career, from established touring acts to beginners. Early-career rapper MiTCH recalls coming to Pirate to level up, as per his manager's advice.

I first discovered Pirate Studios when my manager/best mate told me that practicing for sets at home in my undies with a comb as my mic was outdated, and that we needed to step it up, which I'm happy he did. I've now turned into a frequent flier at the Silver Lake location, so much so that I might need a parking spot.

As well as the facilities and 24-hour convenience, artists in LA flock to Pirate Silver Lake for the community feel. MiTCH notes that moving out west to pursue music has been made easier by dedicated artist spaces like these.

As a New York native, being based in Los Angeles has opened a lot of doors that wouldn’t be open back home. Through living in LA and also, in part, thanks to studios like Pirate, I’ve been able to meet people from all walks and creeds who are insanely talented and open to collaborations, building pivotal relations that remain solid outside of music.

Though proving popular with the LA hip hop scene, Pirate Silver Lake isn't just a rapper's club. AIMMIA, the groundbreaking house music DJ/producer, soulful alternative R&B artist IDMAN, and the multidisciplinary talent Disco Shrine are all part of this vibrant musical community. One of New York's finest rock bands, City of the Sun, are also known to stop by when they're in town.

The fact that Pirate is 24/7 is unbeatable! As artists, our creativity sparks at random times, especially at night, so you know you’ll always have a studio to go to.

It's the community of artists already at Pirate Silver Lake that attracts more artists to use the space. The studio's greatest marketing channel is word-of-mouth as this fairly undiscovered gem becomes a permanent part of the Los Angeles music scene, providing space for new artists and chart toppers alike.

Pirate's Silver Lake studio can be found on Sunset Boulevard. Pirate also has a second LA studio in West Adams.
